(Ana Usma) – The U.S. House of Representatives has introduced the Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act, a comprehensive election integrity bill aimed at modernizing how elections are administered across all states.
The legislation would establish consistent, baseline standards while preserving state control over elections.
The MEGA Act would:
- Require photo identification to vote
- Require citizenship verification during voter registration
- Strengthen routine voter list maintenance
- Require mail-in ballots to be received by the close of polls on Election Day
- Require auditable paper ballots
- Ban ballot harvesting
- Ban ranked-choice voting
- Ban universal vote-by-mail systems
These provisions are not about restricting lawful voters. They are about ensuring elections are transparent, auditable, and defensible in a modern threat environment.
Why This Matters for Nevada
Every provision of the MEGA Act would directly affect how elections are conducted in Nevada.
Nevada has rapidly expanded mail voting and relaxed ballot-handling rules in recent years. While these changes were often framed as access improvements, they also introduced vulnerabilities that many voters remain uneasy about.
